SCHEHERAZADE

BEETHOVEN Overture to Fidelio
BARTOK Piano Concerto No. 3
Varvara Nepomnyaschaya, piano
RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade

The Fidelio overture, the only opera that Beethoven composed, will be followed by the last work completed by the Hungarian Bela Bartok in his exile in New York, just a few days before his death in 1945. His Piano Concerto No. 3, which contains a torrent of musical ideas, is home to a lyricism and serenity that distinguish it from Bartok’s two earlier, more incisive concertos. It will be interpreted by Varvara, one of the outstanding contemporary artists, winner of the Concours Géza Anda in 2012 and in demand throughout the world due to the quality and uniqueness of her performances.

Then the orchestra tackles the oriental tale Scheherazade, which the Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov turned into a classic of the symphonic repertoire thanks to a score abounding in sensuality and exoticism.
